Anxiety

Anxiety often feels like a constant state of "high alert." I can help you understand the mechanics of fear and how to break the cycle of avoidance.

    • Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Addressing chronic worry about everyday life.

    • Social Anxiety: Overcoming the intense fear of being judged or embarrassed in social settings.

  • Panic attacks: can feel like a sudden, terrifying loss of control. I help you manage the overwhelming physical symptoms—such as breathlessness or a racing heart—while working to reduce anticipatory anxiety. This is the persistent fear of the "next one" happening, which often leads to a restricted life. The goal is to help you feel safe in your body again.

  • Health Anxiety: This involves a persistent preoccupation with having or developing a serious medical condition. I help you move away from the exhausting cycle of scanning your body for sensations, "Dr. Google" searches, and the constant need for medical reassurance. Together, we work on reinterpreting physical symptoms and reducing the "safety behaviours" that keep the anxiety alive.

  • OCD can feel like being trapped in a loop of distressing intrusive thoughts (obsessions) followed by repetitive actions or mental rituals (compulsions) used to find temporary relief. We use evidence-based techniques to help you sit with the uncertainty and break the cycle of compulsions, giving you your time and mental energy back.

  • A specific form of social/performance anxiety where the fear of being "judged" or perceived by others makes it difficult or impossible to urinate in public or shared restrooms. Using a gradual, compassionate approach, we work on desensitisation and managing the physical tension that accompanies this anxiety.

  • This is a body-focused repetitive behaviour where the urge to pull out hair (from the scalp, eyebrows, or elsewhere) becomes a way to manage stress, tension, or even boredom. We use Habit Reversal Training (HRT), Decoupling and mindfulness to help you identify your triggers, manage the urges, and implement healthier coping strategies.

Mood and Self- Esteem

When your mood is low, even the smallest tasks can feel monumental. We work to regain your energy and reshape your self-image.

  • Depression: Identifying the patterns of withdrawal and negative thinking that keep you stuck in a low mood, and finding ways to re-engage with life.

  • Low Self-Esteem: Challenging the "inner critic" and the deep-seated beliefs that you aren't "good enough," helping you build a more compassionate and realistic self-view.

Trauma

Trauma can leave the brain stuck in the past. Using EMDR and CBT, we work to process these memories so they no longer control your present. Sometimes our ways of coping become problems in themselves. We can look at how to change these habits to improve your quality of life.

  • Helping you manage flashbacks, hypervigilance, and emotional numbing following a traumatic event.

  • Addressing long-standing memories from your upbringing that may still impact your sense of safety, trust, and worth as an adult.

Interpersonal problems

Our wellbeing is often tied to the health of our connections. I collaborate with my clients to help them improve how they relate to others. Common areas of focus include:

  • Learning how to express your needs, set healthy boundaries.

  • Navigating communication breakdowns, trust issues, and the patterns that cause friction in romantic or platonic partnerships.

  • Examining the roles you play within your family and how to navigate complex histories or current conflicts with siblings, parents, or adult children.
